Have you ever been so deeply focused… completely immersed in your work… where the words, ideas, and solutions flow effortlessly… 

 

…and then 💥 

 

BAM!!!!!! 

 

A notification. A voice. A tap on the shoulder. A random thought: “Wait… did I buy milk?” 

 

And just like that… the moment is gone. 

 

The flow breaks. 

Your focus scatters. 

And suddenly, it feels like you’re juggling 27 tabs… both on your screen and in your mind. 

 

This week, I’m going to let you in on the secret that will 3X your productivity, without working longer hours. 

And I don’t say that lightly.  

 

Here’s how one of my clients put it when they learned about this:  

“I felt relieved and freed to learn about [this] resulting in higher stress, frustration, workload, and pressure. Thank you for teaching me this, because it helped me feel validated.” 

 

So, if, like my client, you’ve been struggling to stay focused, feeling over-stimulated or mentally “noisy”, and find yourself multitasking as your default mode…  

Buckle up.  

You’re in for a breakthrough. 

 

Now, you might be thinking: “But multitasking is the only way I get through everything on my to-do list. It’s my insurance policy to maximise every minute of every day!” 

 

I get it. I used to believe (and operate) that way, too. Except that it left me feeling tired but wired, constantly switched on, and running around like a headless chicken. Bok-bok 🍗. 

 

Oh, and if your hands are tied when it comes to working in an open-plan environment (i.e. one where the dreaded shoulder-tap is a rite of passage), don’t worry.  

I will address that, too… because it’s something I had to find a solve for, myself. 

 

So before we talk about what to do to 3X your results… 

Let’s start with what’s actually slooooooooowing you down. 🐌

 


 

I’m curious if you can relate to my little conundrum here. 

 

Over here at Vik HQ (a.k.a. my home), I’ve got two worlds: 

Upstairs = sleep + deep work 

Downstairs = life, connection, the “crew” (Cam + Piper 🐾) 

 

Naturally… I wanted the best of both worlds. 

 

So one day, I decided to bring my work downstairs. 

 

Picture this: 

👩🏼‍💻 Me: curled up on my moss-green beanbag, laptop open, typing away. 

🏀 Cam: on the couch, fully immersed in two games at once (Timberwolves and Flyers, I think? GO SPORTS!). 

🐾 Piper: living her best life. 

 

It started well. Here I am… tapping into what you (my readers) need to hear to optimise your performance.. and then… 

And then… 

 

“Yessssssss, come onnnnnnnnn!!!!” 

“Did you know that this is the first time we’ve been in the playoffs since 2008?” 

“OMG look at this ad…” 

 

Now, I love Cam. So, as any loving partner would… each time, I’d pause. Look up. Engage with my full attention.  

 

“That’s all. Carry on.”, he’d say. 

 

But something inside me knew. Every interruption was pulling me out of my rhythm. 

Out of my zone. 

Out of that quiet, powerful state where work feels effortless. 

 

Two hours later? 

I felt it in my body. 

Tension. Frustration. Mental fatigue. 

 

What should have taken one hour… took three. 

I knew exactly what I was doing. Against my own advice. An experiment, perhaps? It did inspire this newsletter, after all… 

I was proactively putting myself in a position of context switching, which comes with a cost. 

 

Time. 

Energy. 

Mental load. 

 

Every time you switch tasks, your brain has to recalibrate. 

(And that can take up to 20–25 minutes. Seriously, there’s tons of research to prove it.) 

 

No wonder it feels exhausting. 

 


 

So I made a decision. 

 

Closed the laptop. 

 “All right, that’s enough. I’m going upstairs.” 

Yes, I wanted to hang out with the “downstairs crew” 🏀🐾. And yet, I knew that THIS was not the way to do it. 

It was a WASTE of my time, effort, and energy… 

 

And almost instantly… My breath slowed, my mind cleared, and the words started flowing again. 

Effortless. Focused. Clean. 

 

The result? 

 

❌ Before: 1 (average) email in 3 hours 

✅ After: 2 (powerful) emails in 2 hours 

 

Same time. Same effort. 

 

3X the output.  

And 10X the satisfaction. 

 

That’s when it became undeniable: 

Single-tasking is the fastest way to accelerate your productivity. 

 


 

Now, before I reveal exactly how to eliminate context switching once and for all, I’m conscious that you might be reluctant to let go of the multitasking skills you spent decades mastering.  

 

After all, they got you this far… right? 

 

That’s ok. I used to be so proud of my multitasking abilities, too. 

 

I would even write about it in my Cover Letters.

Show me any high-performer who’s the BEST in their field, who still falls victim to multitasking.  

 

Do you really think that Tony Robbins, Simon Sinek, or Steve Jobs wasted their time hopping from one thing to another?

Or do you think they followed the exact methodology I’m about to reveal to you, so that they stay in their zone of genius and maximise the ROI of their time for as long as possible? 

 

High performers don’t rely on juggling more. 

They protect their focus.

1. PLAN your focus 

Identify your highest-ROI work. 

Block time when your energy is at its peak.

Silence notifications. Close unnecessary tabs.
