The Ugly Part You Don’t See on Instagram

✅ The Productivity Queen has been procrastinating on something BIG since July. 👀

✅ The shiny result you see online hides an entire battle behind the scenes.

✅ Resistance holds power… until you stop handing yours over to it.

✅ I’m sharing the question that finally helped me see what was really going on (so that you can, too).

Hi {{first_name}},

Is it just me, or is your social media feed starting to look like a used car salesman × Claude-carousel convention × Meta Ads on steroids?

It’s disgusting.

Don’t get me wrong, there are beautiful corners of the internet, and I’m very blessed that my algorithm serves me plenty of them.

BUT I also hear what others people are seeing. The noise, the sleazy marketing tactics, and the endless 6-second reels that make an hour pass by in an instant.

And don’t get me started on this parade:

LOOK AT ME!

BUY MY THING!

HERE ARE 7 HOOKS THAT WILL 37X YOUR REVENUE BEFORE BREAKFAST!

If I’m being radically honest with you, that’s part of mt resistance to going “all in” on social media.

I’ve been talking a BIG game about this since July.

“Yup, I’m finally going to double down.”

“I have everything I need, I just need to do it.”

“I can’t wait to get this project off the ground.”

…and yet…

…the procrastination demons got me.

Yup, even the Productivity Queen 👑 herself has an Achilles heel.

And I guarantee there’s something that you’ve been procrastinating on, too.

The letter that’s been sitting on your desk for three months.

The conversation with your mother-in-law.

The piece of furniture blocking your hallway that you keep walking around instead of getting rid of.

Or perhaps it’s bigger.

The business plan you keep “thinking about”.

The honest look at your finances you keep postponing.

The idea that has lived rent-free in your brain for six months.

The creative project you cannot stop talking about… but somehow never start.

We all procrastinate.

And that’s actually a good thing.

Here’s why:

Procrastination Is Resistance Training

Procrastination is a form of resistance.

Think about that for a moment.

What happens when we invite resistance into our lives?

If you’ve ever gone to the gym, a pilates class, or done any form of resistance training (heck – perhaps that’s what you’ve been procrastinating!)… you’ll likely remember that it’s pretty hard when you’re IN it, right?

Like, ouch.

It’s painful. You’re sweaty. You don’t want to do it, but you keep going.

What happens over time?

You get stronger, right?

You build more muscle. All of a sudden, not only are you going more often, but you’re upping your weight load. MORE resistance.

In this scenario, resistance itself isn’t the enemy.

Resistance is what gives the muscle something to push against.

And that got me thinking…

If procrastination is resistance…

and resistance creates the conditions for strength…

then the real question becomes:

Who gets the power?

You?

Or the resistance?

That, my friend, is the game of procrastination. 🎲

Because, by that explanation, if procrastination = resistance, and resistance = power… when you conquer procrastination, you get your power back.

When you don’t, you give your power away.

The math just maths.

That’s why I’ve stopped shaming procrastination, and instead, started seeing it as your friend.

It’s the guide who lovingly shines a light on something that’s important to you, while standing between you and your next expansion.

You will have heard me say this a million times, and I’ll say it a million times over: awareness is always the first step.

You cannot change that which you cannot see.

And when you begin to see the pattern of procrastination seep into a corner of your life, it’s a signal that you’re moving in the right direction.

It’s a sign that you’re on the precipice of something great… when you conquer this resistance.

The Ugly Part You Don’t See on Instagram

And you betcha I know things are going to get serious real quick around here when I finally conquer my social media procrastination demon.

That’s precisely why I’ve been resisting it.

Because putting myself out there properly requires something from me.

A new level of visibility, vulnerability, and resilience.

Being misunderstood, misliked, and (this is a big one) letting go of control.

And, underneath all of that, there’s an even bigger fear:

“What happens when this actually works?”

Because expansion requires you to leave parts of your old identity behind.

And that, @name, is the ugly stuff you don’t see in your Instagram feed.

You don’t see the internal battles, the trial-and-error, the overthinking, re-taking, perfectionism, and all the other things that we visionaries deal with when birthing something new into the world.

Mostly, you only see post after it went viral. The business after it took off. The book after it became a bestseller.

You see the outcome.

You rarely see the resistance (and procrastination) that came before it.

And then we compare our messy Chapter One to somebody else’s beautifully edited Chapter Seventeen and wonder why we’re “behind”.

Enough of that BS.

Keep your eyes on your own paper. Own your shit. Do your work. Make your mark.

Because THAT is where your power lives.

Your First Rep

So, if you’re procrastinating on something important right now, please don’t try to fix it with another fancy planner. Because organising your procrastination into beautifully colour-coded categories is still procrastination. 😂

And don’t beat yourself with the shame-stick about it, either.

Instead, try asking: “What am I afraid will happen when I actually do the thing I keep putting off?”

And don’t accept your first bullshit answer. Go deeper.

So what if you fail? So what if people judge you? So what if you waste your time?

What if you DO succeed? What if your life actually changes?

What if becoming the person who has what you want requires you to leave an old version of yourself behind?

Oufffff. There she is.

There’s your resistance.

And awareness puts the power back in your hands.

From that place of power, ask:

“What’s the smallest, doable action I can take?”

That tiny action?

That’s your first rep.

And tomorrow, you do another.

To your inevitable successs,

P.S. When life is overflowing with deadlines, responsibilities, and ambitious goals, making time to create can feel like the least productive thing you could possibly do.

But creativity isn’t wasted time.

In this week’s episode of Resonance, I connect with Alicia Diaz-Blevins, a business leader, fluid artist, and founder of Ali-Art.

Together, we explore the unexpected connection between creativity and productivity… and how making space for play helps us protect our energy, loosen perfectionism, and create more balance in the way we work and live.
