Why "Done" Never Feels Like Enough
March 19, 2026

TL;DR: This Week in Flourish Weekly
✅ Most high-performers feel like they’re never doing “enough”
✅ The problem isn’t effort… it’s a lack of clear “Definition of Done”
✅ Without clarity, your brain never registers completion [insert feeling of failure here]
✅ Use this 4-step framework to create clarity, momentum, and satisfaction INSTANTLY
Kia ora {{first_name}},
Have you ever felt like you’re running towards a goal… without knowing when you’ve actually arrived?
Or reached the end of the day thinking you didn’t do “enough”…
even though you spent more hours at your laptop than you’d like to admit? 🫣
Or maybe this one hits home:
You set a milestone.
You achieved it.
And then thought… “Now what?”
The real reason you never feel “done”
You’re not alone.
In fact, most people feel this way.
And here’s why:
Most people are terrible at goal-setting.
Not because they’re lazy or unmotivated, but because no one ever taught them how to define:
- What they actually want
- What success looks like
- And most importantly… what “done” means
So we default to:
❌ More effort.
❌ More hours.
❌ More pushing.
And still… it never feels like enough.
This Shows Up In Your Money, Too
How you do anything is how you do everything.
So let me ask you this:
Do you actually know what financial freedom looks like for you?
Not just a vague idea… but a clear number, lifestyle, and definition of “done”?
If you’re like most people… probably not.
And that’s okay.
(It used to be me, too.)
But watch this space! Something powerful is coming your way next week 👀
The tool that changes everything: Definition of Done
Let me introduce you to one of the simplest (and most powerful) tools I use:
Your Definition of Done (DOD).
This is:
A specific, tangible, measurable, and achievable (*emphasis on achievable!!!!!*) outcome
that clearly tells your brain:
✅ “This is complete.”
Because if your goal is some wishy-washy-woo-woo-up-in-the-air idea …
How will you EVER know when you’ve reached it?
And here’s where high-performers often trip up:
It NEEDS to be achievable.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for Quantum Leaps and collapsing timelines.
I genuinely believe ANYTHING is possible for all of us.
But if even a small part of YOU doesn’t believe it’s possible?
Your brain will sabotage you.
Through:
- Procrastination
- Overwhelm
- Distraction
- “Busy” work that goes nowhere
It WILL show up.
Your 4-Step Definition of Done Framework
Use this for anything: daily tasks, projects, goals, or even your life vision.
1. Specific
What EXACTLY needs to happen?
What must be true for this to be considered done?
2. Tangible
Can you see it? Hear it? Read it?
Word to the wise: if you’re chasing a “feeling”, you’re setting yourself up to fail.
Clarity comes first.
Feelings follow.
3. Measurable
How will you track completion?
If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it. And you definitely can’t tell when it’s “done”.
4. Achievable
Is this realistic for YOU, based on your time, energy, and capacity?
This is where self-trust is built.
A Real-Life Example
Today, my “Definition of Done” looked like this:
✅ Deliver the kick-off call for Efficiency Made Easy
✅ Record 2 podcast episodes
✅ Write this newsletter
That’s it.
Not 27 tasks.
Not an endless to-do list.
Just three clearly defined outcomes.
And here’s the key:
I originally planned to record three podcast episodes.
But based on my time, energy, and capacity?
That was NOT achievable.
So I adjusted.
Two episodes = done.
And instead of ending the day feeling "behind"…
I feel clear. Complete. Grounded.
Clarity Creates Calm
When you define “done” properly:
You stop second-guessing.
You stop overworking.
You stop chasing “enough”… because you already know what that looks like.
No need to chase.
And you finish your days feeling:
✔️ Calm
✔️ Grounded
✔️ Content
Try This Tomorrow
Before you start your day, ask yourself:
👉 What does “DONE” look like today?
Not “busy”.
Not “productive”.
Done.
And notice what shifts.
If you want help applying this to your life, your work, or your goals… hit “reply”.
You know I could talk about this for days 😉
To your inevitable success,

P.S. Are you a high performer with big goals… but something still feels off?
