Resonance – Episode 65
Verbatim Transcript
Speaker: Viktoria Levenberg
You know, it’s always hard to start something new. What does detox actually mean? You
might not want to hear this, but there’s this ignorant assumption that we just have an
infinite amount of hours, an infinite amount of seconds, days. I don’t know. I’m scared. You
know, your health is just one of those things that you cannot buy back. I’m doing everything
for everyone, and no one even says thank you. That’s what I’m doing right now, day to day,
actually what I wanna be doing with my life, or am I sleepwalking?
How much more could you achieve in your day, your week, your month, your year, if you
actually removed the obstacles that are slowing down your body, your mind, and your
spirit? In today’s episode, you’re gonna learn the simple detox practices that I honour
religiously to achieve your next level of efficiency while feeling better and brighter than ever
before.
I swear by these, and I guarantee that if you just implement one of these consistently for
the next seven days, you are gonna see a tangible result in your clarity, your effectiveness,
your productivity, and your energy. Let’s dive in.
Welcome to Resonance, the podcast for high performers and entrepreneurs who want to
do life, work, and success differently. I am your host, Viktoria Levenberg, and I’m obsessed
with efficiency, productivity, and planning in a way that harnesses your energy and your
natural rhythms while keeping you in alignment and integrity. Because I have figured out
that lasting success is not about the hustle. It is about being in resonance. Let’s begin.
Hi. I, before we dive in, I just wanted to give you a little heads-up that the sound in today’s
episode might be slightly lower quality than what you’re used to hearing, and I genuinely
apologise. I know this is a podcast. You’re here for a great audio experience.
Here’s what happened, and I still can’t put my finger on why. Um, I’ve got this really cool
setup. It’s all super professional, and I have an audio running. I’ve got my video recording
running. I’ve got a backup thing going, just, you know, to be super, super safe. And this is
the second time that this has happened for me in, like, the last two weeks. I swear it must
have something to do with, like, Mercury retrograde at the time of the recording of this video
or something, if you’re into this sort of stuff.
But, like, all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, the sound just stops recording. And I
recorded an amazing episode for you that, like, it felt like half of it was channelled through
me, of, like, things that came through that I wasn’t even planning to share with you. Um,
and I’m the efficiency queen, and as much as I love you, I don’t think I’ll be able to deliver
as quality of an episode for you if I tried to re-record this.
So I’ve made the decision to leverage the backup audio that we’ve got, which is gonna be a
little bit of a, a lesser quality listening experience to you. But I hope that you can forgive me
and accept my humanness and the mistakes that I make as well. Um, and I’m definitely
learning from this, uh, and gonna see how I can fix these little sound issues.
So thank you for your understanding in advance, and, uh, if you are, like, a really techy and
have a understanding why a microphone would stop working at some point across multiple
features, then please DM me on Instagram because I am all ears.
Okay, thank you so, so much for your understanding. I’m sending you so much love. Now,
without further ado, enjoy the episode, because even though the sound might not be the
best, man, the quality of the content is next level. Enjoy.
Okay, before I go to town nerding out on all the things, my favourite detox practices that are
actually, like, again, before you get scared off by the word detox, by the way, just know that
a lot of this is really simple. But just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it’s easy.
And this episode is inspired because it’s going to air just around the time that I do my
annual spring detox, which, if you’re new to my world, it’s like a whole thing. It’s like a two-
week process, and I, I get really, really intentional with my nutrition. I’m doing coffee
enemas twice a day. Like, sometimes I even flush out my liver. There’s all these
supplements. Like, it’s an intense cleanse.
And none of that here today. Don’t worry. I’m not here trying to prescribe you to some weird
regimen. I just felt like it was very much on brand, ’cause if you’re down under like me, you
know, if you’re in New Zealand or maybe Australia or somewhere else in the Southern
Hemisphere, right about this time we’re coming up, like, oop, we’re springing back up
again. It is that initiatory energy, and it is a great time to purge, to clear, to detox. You know,
spring clean, my friends.
And if you are one of my amazing listeners up north, I feel you. You are now going inward,
and it’s still a really great time, like, around the autumn, the spring equinox. It’s a beautiful
time to just readjust and, and find a little bit of balance, um, as you head into the next
season.
So I just feel that in the world of productivity and efficiency and, you know, we as driven,
ambitious, high-achieving humans are really intentional with getting results and
succeeding and achieving, and often we do that at the cost of actually the two most
precious resources that we take for granted, which we can’t actually ever buy back.
And if you’ve been around my neck in the woods for a little while, you have heard me speak
about this. It is your time and your energy. And those are the things that, doesn’t matter
how wealthy you are in the 3D money sense of the world, like, if you, you have no time and
no energy and your health is poor, then actually you’re not wealthy at all.
And this really hit home for me, like, literally at the time of the recording of this episode. Just
yesterday, I spent high four figures on comprehensive testing for my health, from, you know,
all the essential nutrients and minerals and health markers to even some, like, really, I
guess, I don’t know, I’m scared, like, some really big diagnostic tests around genetic risk
factors, you know, of, say, Alzheimer’s or cancer or other degenerative diseases.
Like, I didn’t want to get too crazy. Don’t get me wrong, I could have spent, like, tens of
thousands of dollars on these tests. But I was like, okay, let me at least get some
preliminary data, because there comes this time when you start to realise that, oh, it might
be spring in New Zealand, but I ain’t no spring chicken no more. Um, that it’s really
important to start to curate your lifestyle, your habits, your behaviours, and your work
patterns and rhythms in a way that help you thrive rather than deplete you.
And you, look, you might not want to hear this, but I don’t know what it is recently. Like, I, if
you, you will have already heard one of my amazing friend’s stories, I think just last week.
We aired this episode with Meytal, just went recently went through breast cancer, and,
like, her journey. And I think I mentioned as well, like, my, my therapist was going through a
very similar journey on the same timeline.
Someone in my kind of acquaintance circle recently just unexpectedly passed away. Like,
super young, healthy, you know, boom, just didn’t wake up the next morning. And I’ve just
had these little reminders, and I’ve got goosebumps just as I’m saying this to you, like, left,
right, and centre of the finite nature of our lives.
And there’s a lot of people who I’ve been speaking to lately, maybe even you listening are
one of them, um, who have so graciously volunteered their time for me to ask some
questions. You know, I’m, like, trying to get to know you better, understand you better, see
what it is that you’re struggling with, what I can help you with.
And a lot of the things that keep coming through is sort of this fear of death, the inability to
recognise that we are all going to die one day. We don’t know when. And it’s easier to push
it away, to, like, isolate a problem. But the thing is that I’m almost starting to recognise this
fear and avoidance of death is actually the reason why a lot of you are living life the way
that you are, sacrificing the quality time with your family, postponing the time with your
friends, ignoring your health, snoozing the self-care thing, whatever it is.
Because there’s this almost, like, ignorant perception. I’m sorry, like, this might ruffle some
feathers, but, like, I just had, have to share this because it really hit me recently, that there’s
this ignorant assumption that we just have an infinite amount of hours, an infinite amount
of seconds, days.
And the more I kind of sit with this truth, it’s like, holy, like, this is finite. The time that we
have been given to play, to explore this body, this existence, is only gonna last us that long,
and every second counts. It is not like there is no there there. It is right here, right now.
And I don’t know, like, I just had some big aha moments, some awareness of things shift
happening in my brain that just really inspired this, and I felt like sharing it with you. Even if
you might not want to hear this, you, you need to hear this.
Because these detox practices that I’m gonna share with you here are going to, yes, of
course, make you more efficient, help you achieve more productivity, help you achieve your
goals, be more successful in life. That is all great. But most importantly, they’re gonna bring
you back home to what really matters and help you prioritise the important yet seemingly
not urgent things that are actually the most urgent.
They deserve to be the No. 1 priority on your calendar, to-do list, your schedule, always and
forever.
And if you’re new to my world, maybe you haven’t been listening to the podcast before,
you’ve just kind of met me, um, you might not know this, ’cause I don’t really publicly speak
about it. It just doesn’t really, you know, vibe that much with the world of productivity.
But I am a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach, and um, it is really
exciting. I’m a total health nerd. I love all the things health and well-being. And, you know,
your health is just one of those things that you cannot buy back.
And it doesn’t matter if you are hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, or if you’re just
barely making ends meet, or if you are a billionaire. When it comes to the deathbed, like,
we’re all the same, okay?
And your health actually impacts your performance so much more than you realize.
Because no matter where you are, it doesn’t matter if you are in your 40s, your 50s, your
60s, or your 20s, the better you take care of your body right now, the more it’s gonna reward
you in the future.
And I get it. Like, the older we get, the easier it’s like, “I wish I should have started this five
years ago.” Yeah, cool. Maybe that was the best time to start. The second best time is right
now.
It’s the same thing with investing. Like, you know, people are like, “Oh, I’ve got no savings.
This sucks, blah blah blah.” It’s like, cool, yeah, it would have been great if you started this
at 20, like myself included, and then, but the second-best time to start is now, because that
is the only thing you have control over, rather than having the same regrets five years down
the line.
So, all that to say, there is also the additional benefit of your results, as I’ve alluded to
earlier, because you are more energised, you can think more creatively and come up with
better solutions to bigger problems. You can think more clearly. You are more resilient to
stress and life’s inevitable moments of life and at you, and you have the capacity to go after
bigger goals.
So it’s not just like, “Oh, this is such a nice to have.” Like, this is a prerequisite to living a life
of intentional design.
And so, by the end of this episode, you will have some really simple, actionable detox hacks
you can literally implement starting today, so that you can clear your body, your brain, your
spirit, and your emotions of all the gunk that is keeping you slow, sluggish, and stuck.
Sluggish. I think I meant to say sluggish, but you get the gist. Let’s dive in.
As we dive into these really simple detox strategies to help you be more productive in your
work, life, and business, we’re gonna kind of, I don’t know, my brain loves to
compartmentalise. You know, I think I’ve got some undiagnosed ADHD going on here, so it’s
great to put things into boxes and buckets so that it all feels organised.
I don’t know if anyone relates here. I love categorising shit.
So we’re gonna categorise this into four buckets. We’re gonna look at your physical health,
your mental health, your emotional health, and your spiritual health, okay? So that we
really kind of take a holistic, multidimensional view of you as an entire human being.
Now, depending on what school of thought you subscribe to, there might be different
angles that you prefer to look at this. This is just one view, okay? Like everything in
Resonance, take what resonates, leave what doesn’t.
But all that I’m trying to really show you here is that across different areas of your life, you
have a, yeah, bucket is basically what we’re gonna call it, because there’s energy that flows
into the bucket, and then there is energy that flows out of the bucket.
And it’s this beautiful universal rhythmic egg and flow of life. It is one of the laws of the
universe. I highly recommend, by the way, reading the Kabbalah if you haven’t yet. It, like,
blew my mind. I’ll link it up in the shout-outs for you.
It is one of the laws of the universe that there’s sort of this rhythm of life to everything, and
everything has a polarity. To every light there is a darkness. To every up there is a down. And
as above, so below. There’s kind of a lot of these um, isms and universal capital T truths
that are present everywhere.
And that also applies to the places where your energy flows in and out from.
And, like, some of these examples in, in like, let’s say the physical space, and that could be
walking your dog or playing with the kids, you know, heavy lifting, going to the gym,
whatever it is that you’re doing.
Or if we look at your mental health, it’s me solving problems at work or diving deep into
spreadsheets, looking at maths and percentages and talking numbers. Oh my god. I don’t
know about you. I’m not a math girl. I don’t do numbers.
I mean, I do numbers because I have to, because I run a business. But if it were up to me, I
would just like, I like to paint by numbers. That’s like as far as we go.
Anyways, back on track. Um, speaking of the undiagnosed ADHD, here you go, enjoying it in
real time.
So that was the physical and the mental. Um, a little emotional example for you would be,
again, like of, of energy flowing in or out, depending on who you are. Maybe negotiating or
dealing with difficult personalities. Maybe you’ve got a difficult client or a difficult coworker
at work, or there are some interesting dynamics that are just taking that little bit of extra
emotional energy that you need to navigate with family.
Um, and then spiritual would be sort of the deeper meaning, that sense of fulfilment from
what you’re doing, from how you’re spending your day, your connection with something
greater than yourself.
So hopefully this is starting to give you a little bit more of a tangible sense of what I mean
when I’m referring to these different areas of you and your multidimensional health.
And the thing that you need to understand is the ins and outs of these energy inflows and
outflows are very unique and personal to you, because it depends on you, your values, your
priorities, your lifestyle, your circumstances.
But the most important thing that you get to leverage, and I hope you really walk away with
from today’s episode, is that there needs to be a sacred reciprocity and a balance between
the two.
So as you have energy flowing into one of those buckets, into your life, that’s what
replenishes you. That’s what gives you more energy to then pour out from into the rest of
your life, your community, your family, your co-workers, whatever it is that you do.
And the problem that I see, especially with ambitious, high-achieving Type A women and
men, is that we love to give. We love to pour our energy, heart, and soul into everything, and
we have a hard time receiving.
Anyone? Is it just me, or like, do you also have a really hard time asking for help and
receiving help from someone, or like a compliment or a really nice gesture?
Yeah, that is, that’s a little sign that there’s a bit of an imbalance situation going on there.
And the problem with that, and I, I was speaking to one of my clients about this recently
because she really struggles with it. She’s like, “I’m always just giving and giving and giving,
but I never receive.” Like, huh, you see the problem here is in a dynamic.
Because if you’re constantly giving, so you’re pouring out of your little energy bucket, and
you’re not refilling that energy bucket, either through your own agency or by designing your
life in a particular way, what’s gonna happen is that eventually the energy reserves of that
bucket are gonna start to deplete.
And then all of a sudden, you’re still pouring, you’re still giving, but it’s no longer from the
overflow. You’re starting to pour from your own energetic reserves.
And then what happens is that you start to slowly deplete those reserves, and you are just
running on empty.
All of a sudden, that’s when the resentment builds up. That’s like, “I’m doing everything for
everyone, and no one even says thank you, and I’m just so exhausted, and oh my god, they
just don’t understand. Why do I have to carry the world on my shoulders?”
I don’t know if that sounds familiar to anyone. I’ve definitely been there. I’m just kind of, you
know, I’m making that little inner critic self-talk situation that tends to happen here and
there.
And, like, you cannot pour from an empty cup.
That is, it is literally, like, I hear this so much in, in the personal development space, that
like, there’s the mom guilt and the self-care is selfish piece, and, “I don’t have the time for
this.” And the reality is, like, you’re, you’re doing everyone else a disservice by not doing
this.
And I’ll be the first to put my hand up that I also fall into my old habit, habits and patterns
and unhealthy routines. And so it does, it takes that responsibility to come back into
balance and into that sacred reciprocity, where you are actually refilling your cup so that
you are pouring from the overflow and from abundance rather than from depletion.
And that’s what brings me to harmony.
Harmony is the most important piece in this whole puzzle, because bringing it back to, like,
the theme of today’s episode, right, and what does detox actually mean?
It means clearing harmful substances when they have accumulated in unhealthy doses.
And while, like, in our common modern 2026 era, this is mostly practised in the physical
space, it is also damn important to honour your multidimensional health across all levers.
Because if all of a sudden you are working a job that no longer fulfills you, and you’re just
doing it to pay the bills, and you’re paying the bills because you want to put food on the
table for your family, and, and you’ve got these big dreams, but there you’re just barely
surviving through the day, and you can’t see your way out of the rat race because you’re just
going and going and going, day and day and day out, all of a sudden 10, 20, 30 years go by,
and you’re like, “Where has my life gone? I’ve been always waiting for let later.”
And then that later never comes because now I’m not healthy, not well enough to enjoy the
moment because I sacrificed those years.
It’s like, whoa.
Do you see how quickly this can ripple out beyond just your current reality? And let’s be
real, like, if you’re listening to this podcast and you have stuck with me so far, I’ve already
been throwing some pretty big themes
Your way, and you are ready to hear this. And I respect you. Like, I don’t take this for
granted. You know, it is such an honour and privilege to do this.
And I’m just really now starting to realise how damn important this work is, because this is
the quality of your life that we’re talking about. And it’s hard when you talk about these
qualitative metrics because, by their nature, they are difficult to measure. By their nature,
we all have a different definition of what they mean.
But the better you can create harmony, the better you are at managing your most precious
resources, which is your time and your energy, the better the quality of your life. And this all
ties back to your performance and how you show up every day.
So with that in mind, I’m gonna show you exactly how this works.
The aim of the game here, by the way, as we dive into this and get more concrete into the,
like, the who’s a, what’s a, and the examples, is just to keep it simple, okay? Simplicity
beats complexity every time.
I hear a lot of my coaches and mentors talk about, um, elegance and simplicity and that
actually being the secret to it all, because the nature of us as human beings is to
overcomplicate and to make things much more difficult than they have to be. Myself
included. Like, you know, my little monkey brain just likes to be a little bit messy and come
up with things all over the place.
And so I’m gonna give you a lot of options. I’m gonna give you a lot of examples. And let me
give you this permission slip right here, right now, that you don’t have to do all them. You
don’t have to give any of them try if you really don’t want to. Like, you’re a sovereign human
being. You can do whatever you want with your life.
But you will know where in your life you’re lacking the most, like where the energetic
imbalance is the greatest. And my recommendation would be just to start there, okay?
Don’t try and do it all at once because that never works.
How many times have you tried to overhaul your life and then ended up back at square one,
or even two steps back? So we’re not doing any of that here. We’re just being real, realistic,
and actionable.
And with that in mind, action. Let’s dive into the physical detox phase.
Before you roll your eyes at me, let me say this: just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it’s
easy, okay?
So the most important way to detox your physical body in order to accelerate your
performance and your productivity is movement.
And I mean any kind of movement. It could be getting outside for a walk and getting some
sunlight in your eyes. Yeah, could be going to the gym. It could be going for a run. It could be
dancing, playing tennis. I don’t care, as long as you enjoy it.
This is the name of the game, because that’s gonna get those endorphins running. It’s
gonna get cortisol out of your system, and you’re gonna get a sweat, and you’re gonna
detox and purify through your pores. That’s literally what’s going on when you’re sweating.
Your body’s, like, eliminating the gunk that has been accumulating.
Movement is so important. Like, think of a body of water. What happens to a body of water,
like a swamp, that’s just constantly still? That’s when bacteria accumulate. That’s why we
as human body, it’s like we are mostly made up of water. We need to constantly stay in
movement so that we don’t get sick, okay?
And so that also brings me to another one for you to try out, which is any kind of sheet
therapy. So whether you have access to a sauna, maybe at your gym, especially infrared,
like 10 out of 10 amazing health benefits. But also, if you don’t, like a hot shower or a salt
bath, something that is just gonna get you sweat going and again help you eliminate and
process a bit more of that physical detox.
Um, with that in mind, really important if you’re not already doing this, and my God, like
again, just ’cause it’s simple doesn’t mean it’s easy, are you drinking enough water every
day?
You, like, what’s the quality of the water that you’re drinking?
It baffles me every single time when I see someone that, “Oh my God, I’ve got this terrible
headache, and I just took some Panadol and blah, blah, blah.” And I’m like, “Cool.” And it
was like midday. I’m like, “How much water have you had today?” “I had a coffee.” I’m like,
“A coffee is dehydrating you, so that’s actually contributing to the headache. And when’s
the last time you actually had some real water to replenish what your body is mostly
contained of?”
So please, please, please, please, like, ah, do whatever you need to. Pop some delicious
electrolytes in there or some, like, I honestly don’t care what you do to get that water into
your body. But it is, it also, it detoxifies you, literally.
You need the water to help your kidney flush out the toxins that are accumulating and that
is doing its best to process out.
And I wasn’t gonna go here, but I, I like, I would be doing you a disservice without naming
this. And, and this is like a whole different Tangent we could go on to a whole separate
freaking podcast series on, but around just your nutrition and diet and fasting.
And I actually was, um, featured on one of my friends' podcasts and shared a lot about my
own food relationship story and journey with, like, binge eating and overeating and fasting,
um, which I’ll link up to the show notes here as well, just so that you can have a little listen
and I don’t get too sidetracked on a Tangent.
And I am gonna write this down for myself so that I don’t forget it because, leading by
example here, my friends, just write it down. There is no need for you to be keeping all this
information in your head.
Did you know that you can only keep 7 pieces of information in your head at the same time?
That is why phone numbers are 7 digits long. Isn’t that interesting?
So with that in mind, you are what you eat, right? Like, it’s cliché.
And I’m also going to say that, like, food is very emotional. I myself, I have let my food habits
slip quite dramatically recently because I’ve also been so busy and had other priorities
going on, and it’s starting to show on my skin and my energy and my body.
Like, if you are watching this on YouTube right now, you’ll be able to see my parallel twins
on my cheeks, which are these little pimples that just came through as a result of diet and
inflammation.
I’m like, “Oh God, okay. Yeah, gonna, gonna get back on track.”
So I’m also a real person. I’m not perfect. Yeah, I do, I have a degree in nutrition. Know
exactly what I should be doing. Yeah, there’s plenty of information out there, and the
information isn’t what you need right now, my friend. Like, what you need is community,
coaching, accountability to get you to the finish line.
And so it is really important. Fasting is amazing, so highly recommend it, but do it in
informed way. Do it at the right time, especially if you’re a cycling female.
And, um, if you wanna get real funky with me, this one’s probably more for my health nerds
who are into a bit more extreme things. Um, 10 out of 10 recommend a coffee enema.
So that is gonna just boost your body’s glutathione production, which is your body’s detox
molecule or hormone. I can’t remember, but anyway, it’s like a miracle. Um, and it feels so
good. It is so amazing. I do it at least once every week.
And so these are, like, some really simple, actionable physical detox pieces. If that’s, like,
your current focus area, then 10 out of 10 recommend you start there. It’s definitely mine at
the moment because it’s one that I’ve let slip.
But, um, plenty there for you to play with.
And before you dismiss me and be like, “I know all this,” it’s like, cool, so do I. How much of
it are you actually doing, okay? Like, that’s, that’s the difference here.
Which brings me to the mental detox phase.
So, you know, your mental health. Um, we’re getting better as a society about talking about
mental health and diseases and illnesses. And, you know, I still stand by the point that I
believe everyone needs a therapist and additional mental support around them.
Um, but this one kind of edges between physical and mental health, but I put it in the
mental health bracket just because of the cognitive impacts that it has, which is sleep.
I’m sorry to say this, but most people are sleep-deprived.
And if you’re not sleeping enough, and, and yeah, we could go down a rabbit hole of what is
enough, everyone’s got a different definition of that, but like that is, you’re literally not giving
your brain the time that it needs to process the previous day’s events. You’re not giving your
body the time that it needs to detoxify and to just flush out everything that’s been going on
so that you can reawaken the next day and be at your best performance mentally and
clearly.
And there is a specific time at night; I think it’s like between 10 and 3:00 am roughly. It can
depends on when you go to bed, where your body enters its most intense detox time.
And if you’re not giving yourself sufficient space to wind down beforehand and then also to,
you know, continue sleeping afterwards, you’re, you’re interfering with that process, which
is then where the brain fog, the agitation, the resentment comes in.
And that brings me to, you know, screen time.
We’re all on multiple screens probably at the same time, in the same room or in different
rooms in the house. Our attention span is worse today than it ever has been.
When’s the last time that you actually gave yourself intentional screen-free time?
Like, just, man, there are parts of our brain that are really starting to atrophy because we’re
just so in this hyper-productive mode where, like, I really want you to start thinking about
mental detox also being things like getting creative. Like, paint, play some music, read, take
a nap, close your eyes.
Just give your mind a little separation from the constant overstimulation of your day.
And I know you might be thinking, like, “This is nice for you to say. You have not seen my life.
I am so busy. I barely have time to get through the day.”
I understand, and lovingly, I’m gonna say that you, without addressing this, we’ll just
continue to be just as busy
And it’s just gonna get worse, so I’m just gonna leave it at that. Um, so we’re gonna move
into the emotional detox space here now as well, ’cause I could spend hours on every
single one of these. But I wanna make sure that everyone, depending on what you need and
what kind of season of life you’re in, you’ve got something tangible to walk away with.
So if you are someone who’s more emotionally, um, in need of that emotional energy refill
in your cup, so to speak, um, some things that would be really helpful for you would be
boundaries.
Maybe saying no to something that you would have previously said yes to, or practising
telling the truth, I.E., how you really feel, with someone you can trust, like with a safe
space.
And I know this is weird, but sometimes the someone we can trust is, like, the randomest
person we wouldn’t have even thought of. Like, I don’t know about you, but I’ve often found
it easier to reveal, like, deep, painful, vulnerable truths with a complete stranger on the
internet versus, like, the person whom I share a home with.
And there’s just something about, like, that level of detachment, and that enables it. Like, I
literally just went through this a few hours before recording this podcast, where I was on a
coaching call and I got called on, and I was like, “Oh, let me close the door because, you
know, I’m like, this is a safe space, but I wanna make it extra safe.” Um, and there is really a
level of energy that gets reclaimed and a power that comes back from telling the truth with
people you can trust in a safe space.
’Cause again, I also want you, we’re doing that emotional detox here. You don’t want to be
going spilling all your greatest fears with, like, an emotionally unstable narcissist who, you
know, is just gonna use that as leverage against you, okay? So, like, do this with people you
can trust.
Um, other ways, oh my gosh, like some of my favourite emotional release techniques is
just, like, a silent scream. So you can literally just, like—
If you’re listening to this on Apple or on Spotify and you didn’t see kind of, like, the physical
view of what I was doing, I was literally screaming in silence. So, like, your body feels like
you’re screaming, but you’re not making any noise.
So if you live in a household where it’s really hard for you to just have space to yourself, the
silent scream in the bathroom is amazing, or maybe into a pillow if you do have a bit more
of vocal peace and quiet available to you.
Um, either getting to process that emotion is so important, whether it’s through a cry or,
like, watching—I used to go through a phase in my life where I had so much grief that I just
wasn’t quite able to tap into that. My way to kind of get in there was to watch a really sad
movie or listen to really sad music that would help me release those emotions.
Or maybe it’s the opposite. You want something to, like, refill your cup. You wanna have a
good laugh, like watching a little light-hearted rom-com or something, also really great to
fill up that emotional energy cup.
Journaling, yapping with a good friend, you know, those, those are all, petting your dog, the
20-second hug, these things can really, really fill up your emotional energy cup.
Um, and that brings me to your spiritual health and, and the ways that you can kind of start
to detox on a spiritual level because, you know, I’m gonna link this other episode up in the
show notes because I have had it pop into my mind a few times now, and I think it’s called,
like, “The 7 Types of Rest Every High Performer Needs.”
And it talks about how, like, you can still be getting 70 hours of sleep at night and be
exhausted because there are other types of rest that you need, which is very similar to kind
of what we’re talking about here today around detoxing, that you don’t realise that, um, it
takes for you to operate at your peak performance.
And you see, like, of course it’s easy to see, like, if your body’s, you know, physically
overloaded, you need a detox. Boom, you’re gonna instantly feel better. If your brain is
mentally drained, of course, boom, detox that, feel better.
Emotions and the spiritual side are a little bit less intangible because they’re just less
spoken about in our common world, you know. They’re like, “Poo poo, this woo woo.” Um,
but they’re not. Like, this is just as equally important.
And again, depending on where, what season of life you are in, you’re gonna be in need of
more or less of it.
So, you know, like if you are neglecting your emotions, you, there’s—your emotional state
drives your thoughts and beliefs. It, it drives your mental state. So of course that’s then
gonna impact your actions, the results that you have.
And on a spiritual level, it is even so much bigger because your spirit is, like, the core
essence of who you are and what you came here to do.
And if you are feeling depleted and, like, you have no sense of purpose in the world, or you
are doing something that is so misaligned with the core essence of who you are, and you
walk through the doors and you feel your soul leaving the body, those are some big freaking
red flags right there, okay?
And so I’m conscious that we all have different circumstances. You might need to be doing
some things for different reasons in your life. But there are ways that you can fill up that
spiritual cup so it’s not draining and pouring from empty.
And some of those are time out in nature. Nature is amazing at, um, reminding us of our
smallness and bigness at the same time. You know, like, just looking up at the sky and the
stars and the night, or the moon, or going out.
Like, I’m so blessed to be living in Auckland and have the privilege to go to these little walks
that are, like, 15 minutes from my house, and all of a sudden I feel like I’m transported into
this different reality, and there’s these trees everywhere. It’s beautiful, and you hear this
bird song, and I’m like, “I feel alive again.”
Like, that’s your soul screaming for that re-ignition. Re-ignition, re-ignition, maybe both.
Meditation is one I swear by as well. Like, I did think about putting it in the mental detox
bucket ’cause it does kind of do both. But man, like, that just helps you tap into the bliss
field. It, it also has incredible physical, um, stress-release benefits, etcetera.
But, like, man, look at any high performer out there. They all have a regular meditation
practice. Like, hmm.
Just frustrates me so much when I see people and be like, “I can’t meditate.” It’s like,
“Because I can’t quiet the mind.” You’re not supposed to quiet the mind. That’s like trying to
make your heart stop beating. It just doesn’t work. Your mind is designed to think.
So anyway, could go on another Tangent here, but we’re gonna stay on track.
Um, other ways that I really recommend, and I’m actually gonna include a little gift for you
at the end of this episode, is Yoga Nidra, which translates to conscious and aware sleep.
So especially if you are someone who’s really sleep-deprived and you maybe don’t have the
time to have a lot of hours of sleep at night, Yoga Nidra is, like, the secret to—I think you can
get up to five times as much rest in a limited amount of time.
So, like, 15 minutes of Yoga Nidra is the equivalent of over an hour of sleep. Amazing.
So make sure you stick around to the end of this episode so that you can download that in
the show notes below.
And for your spiritual kind of re-ignition, one of the most effective ways that I have found it
in my own life is just, like, giving yourself to dream and pause.
And just, like, really think about, like, is what I’m doing right now day to day actually what I
wanna be doing with my life, or am I sleepwalking and miserable just because I’ve
subscribed to that being as good enough, and I think that’s all I can be capable of?
And when you start to tap back into the truth that you are limitless potential, and you are
capable of anything and everything that you set out to do, the world’s your oyster, my friend.
So I am very conscious that at this point you’re probably thinking, “Vik, I ain’t got no time for
this ish. Like, don’t you get it? I am busy. I’m already overwhelmed. I have too much to do,
and now you’re giving me, like, 20 million other things that I’m not doing that I feel pretty
crappy about myself about for not already doing.”
My friend, I get it, okay? Trust me, I have been there. I always face the exact same
resistance as you. There’s nothing different about us except for the fact that I have been
practising some of these things regularly and set up a system in my life in a way that factors
that in.
And so now it’s just part of my habit, part of my routine. You know, it’s always hard to start
something new.
And here’s the thing. It’s like, if you’re the type of person who’s like, “I don’t have time for
this,” I hate to break it to you, but you are actually the type of person who doesn’t have the
time not to do this.
It’s, it’s this, like, vicious cycle, this vicious paradigm of—I see the busiest people keep
being busy, and oh, it just, it just breaks my heart.
And so the cost is yours to pay, really. Like, I can’t do the work for you. But if you neglect
your physical body, that’s gonna crash and take you out for weeks
Or months, or things get even worse. Yeah, maybe even longer.
And I’ve had enough people come on the podcast and share their own stories. You know,
like we had Rich a while ago, who I’ll make sure to link up on, on this episode, who ended
up in hospital. We’ve had metallurgists just come on recently, and it was like it took cancer
for her to realise it.
Like, I don’t want you to have to get to that point. But you’re on your own hero’s journey, so if
that’s what it’s gonna take, that’s what it’s gonna take. But, yeah, let’s hope maybe we can
avoid some of those big life boulders and listen to the whispers instead.
Um, if you neglect your mental body, you know that there’s, you’ve got the brain fog, the
overwhelm, the inability to concentrate and actually even think about what you really, truly
want in life.
Neglect your emotional body and you’re just constantly living from a place of stress, fear,
anger, resentment, anxiety. Like, is that a way to live?
And then neglect your spiritual body, and this is where things get really dangerous, because
that’s where depression brews. This is where disconnection brews. This is where absence
and—it’s, it starts to be a really, really slippery slope of hopelessness that I don’t even want
to entertain at the moment, because I think you, you, you picking up what I’m putting down.
Um, and so the cost is real.
And so I’m just gonna invite you to refrain that thinking of, like, if you think, “I don’t have the
time to do this,” like, no. No, you don’t have the time not to do this, because you, you can
see the cost.
And choice is yours. You can keep doing what you’re doing, which obviously if it was gonna
work, it would work by now. And you know where that’s gonna take. It’s gonna take you to
Burnoutville.
Or you can try one of these things, because I’ve just given you, like, a plethora of simple,
actionable detox secrets you can implement starting today to achieve not just your next
level of productivity and performance, but next level of life, next level of energy, joy, and
fulfilment.
And as I said, just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it’s easy, okay? This is gonna be the
hardest part for you now that you finished listening to this episode.
So my invitation to you is that you pick just one. Just one of these little detox practices and
commit to it for one week.
And also I, like, I just want you to think, like, okay, is it my physical, my mental, my
emotional, or my spiritual body that needs the most refilling of energy right now?
And then once you pick that one thing, be like, okay, like on a scale of one to 10, for
example, I’m gonna use myself as an example here, it’s like my physical body right now,
even though it’s pretty great, but like versus where I want it to be, I’m, I’m, there’s definitely
an opportunity to improve.
So on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 is low, 10 is super high, where would you rate your level of
satisfaction with that specific area of your life?
I’m gonna say, like, for my physical body, probably like a 6, 7. Um, just be 6 for, for the
purpose of it. You know, maybe yours is lower, maybe yours is higher. We’re not here to
judge anyways.
Just make sure you capture that, and then pick one of those secrets for you that you’ve
already selected, those detox practices. Prioritise it for the next week, and then return back
to this question and just watch the instant shift that is possible for you in as little as 7 days.
It is amazing.
I would love if you take me up on this little challenge. Keep me posted. Let me know on the
grams how you go.
I hope that you have found this episode valuable. This is it, my friends. Your time, your
energy are your most precious assets, and the better you are at managing them, the higher
the quality of your life.
Thank you so much for listening to this week’s episode. I am so excited to bring to you next
week someone I’ve been really looking forward to interview and share with you, and that is
Megan Blacksmith.
She is a neuro-linguistic programming expert. We’re gonna talk all things mindset and how
the language that you share with yourself and others shapes your internal and external
reality.
I am really, really pumped to for you to experience this. I’m really pumped for myself to
experience this. So make sure that you tune in next week.
And until next time, bye for now. Enjoy your little challenge.
Alright, maybe you’re tired. Maybe you don’t have the time to get extra sleep. Maybe life’s
just a lot right now, and maybe the demands are getting too much, but you need a quick fix
right here, right now.
You may have heard me speak about how incredible Yoga Nidra can be to give you rest that
is five times deeper than sleep.
So in 15 minutes, you could get the equivalent of up to one or one and a half hours of sleep.
If you can carve out 15 minutes in your day, I can guarantee you, you will feel more
energised.
And I have a little nifty giftie for you. I would like to offer you a free Yoga Nidra recording.
